TN360 | Homesick box travel-TN360
2019 Mado Sugar Industry Art Triennial
Description
Apart from farming, the painstaking parts in agricultural business mostly involve transportation. Especially in this urbanized era, transportation is rather important despite in a less conceivable and noticeable way. In the experiences of traveling north to south studying and working, the presence of paper boxes has drawn our attention. The project, extending from “The Road of Boxes”, transforms the volume of a box into a space. Through the project, Walking Grass realizes “The Road of Boxes” through the imagery of transporting not only “plants” but also “stories”
Just like delivery of boxes, links and intersections between nodes also take part in transportation diversity. The mobility of vehicles (pickup trucks, food carts, or stalls) makes it more adaptable to the surroundings and flexible to the local market due to the nature of transportability. Agricultural produce, during the journey of being delivered, imperceptibly connects each household’s stories of living. Through the stop-and-go pace from different transportations, Walking Grass attempts to make these “boxes” be seen or even be exchanged.
During the exhibition, we drove the vehicles in the downtown area of Madou, and stayed at some locations to carry out the printing workshop. On the last day of the exhibition, we turned the work into a performance stage and performed a performance with the performer Zhang Yawei.
